Volunteer-Powered Access to Justice Starts Here

Pro Bono Virginia (PBV) is a groundbreaking effort to create permanent statewide infrastructure that turns interested attorneys into capable volunteers—providing the training, support, and community they need to take their first case and then stay engaged over time.

If you’re interested in doing or supporting pro bono efforts in Virginia, you’re in the right place.

I want to help, but I need training

If you want to make the biggest impact with your time, consider participating in the Pro Bono Academy. Attorneys selected to participate will be guided into a high priority, high demand practice area and trained with a group of peers through 4-6 weekly classes taught by veteran pro bono volunteers. Classes will be virtual and one to two hours in duration. After getting an overview of the law and a sense of the process for handling cases, you will work with your instructor and your cohort to tackle live case assignments, connect with your clients, prepare required documents and, if necessary, get ready for court appearances.

Outside of the Academy, if you need training before you start doing pro bono, you have a lot of options. Some service opportunities include training provided by the legal aid/legal service organization.

There are multiple training opportunities available. Some organizations provide stand alone training sessions.
